Spring is springing (everywhere but here)

Hi, all:

On this first full day of spring, I thought I'd reach WAY back for a little vernal celebration.

The original of this song goes back beyond 1245, which is the date of the earliest copy that exists -- the song is older. Generally attributed to W. de Wycombe. It is the oldest known song in six parts.

Jeffrey might want to find a few friends to fill out his recorder duos for this one.

Lyrically, I've include my own translation of the Middle English lyrics and added Ezra Pound's infamous autumnal answer to the original.

Happy Spring!

David

dj, There is no substitute for ol' English ditties that have lasted over 775 years. . . and your interpretation is astounding. I'm impressed that you feel I could "fill out", least of all, add to this Hidden Gem. I'm just glad that things like this are not lost to the world. Thanks for bringing it back to our ears.
