Syncopated Chord Placement

This looks like it is probably a request for the future. Notation Help says, "When you are manually typing in chord names, hit the TAB key to advance to the next major beat..." There doesn't appear to be a way to have the chord symbol be on an offbeat. For example:

Note that the C7 chord symbol is on beat 3, where ideally it would be on the offbeat of beat 2.

Re: Syncopated Chord Placement

Hi Ralph,

The default is indeed to have chord names placed on the main beats as that's where the majority typically fall (and we've tried to help folks not misplace the majority of the chords :) ). However, you can put the chord names on off beats, you just have to position it manually. The caveat here is that there needs to be another staff in the same measure that has a note of some kind on the off beat. If there's not one, you could always put in a "dummy" staff of something like repetitive 16th notes or something, and then remove or hide the staff when you're done.

To manually place a chord name:
  1. Click on the Text tab, then Chord names
  2. Use your mouse to click on the score exactly where you'd like to put the chord name (noting the caveat above about note placement).
Hope this helps!
Sherry
