Tranforming maj to min

Hi,

Quite some years ago, a Notation Composer user asked if there was a function to convert maj to min. There was none. In response I worked out the procedure provided below. Perhaps a maj to min function can be added now to the next Composer version.

I have found it quite useful, to change for instance 8 bars to min, as an insert to give the vocalist a bit of a breather, as an intro to a song, or to add general interest to an overused song, etc.

The procedure I had suggested all those years ago is as follows:

1. Transpose original key to A maj.
2. Change the key signature to C maj. Do not transpose but just change the key.
3. Lower all #.
4. Transpose to original key.
5. Make any adjustments to taste but also to account for the harmonic and melodic modes.

Best wishes,

Herbert

Hi,

Just to make sure, in the above post, step 3. Should read:

3. Lower all # by half a step.

Hi Herbert,

Thanks for this procedure - this is an excellent short, step-by-step guide that gives a terrific visual cue (the sharps) to show exactly which notes need to be lowered by a half step to achieve the effect.

Thanks for sharing this, and it is now on our "to do" list.

ttfn,
Sherry
