I try AI. My, my.

Hi, all:

In 2022, when my wife and I decided the financial situation was optimal for us to close and sell our theatre building, it left me with a handful of unproduced scripts that are still looking for their first production.

One of the most ambitious is a musical called The Diaries of Adam & Eve.

It's a 4-person show, with two playing Adam and Eve and the other two playing everybody else. Oh, and a 5-piece rock band.

The reason for this post is, without having a recording of a live production, I couldn't post good renditions of the songs in the show. Any 'computer singers' available in 2019 (the Dark Ages) were poor at best.

Until now.

New AI programs are allowing some very convincing vocalists to be created in software. The one I'm using is called ACE STUDIO. Don't get me wrong: it's a long way from replacing humans as real singers, but it's good enough for a demo track. It still needs the script or a score to follow along with as a few of the lyrics are still hard to understand without that aid.

I've just posted demo versions of all the vocal numbers on the Diaries of Adam & Eve page here: https://playsfromdavidjacklin.ca/the...am-and-eve.php.

Scroll down past the original drawings from Mark Twain's 1904 publication (yep, Mark Twain) and read a bit about the show. Then click on the link at the bottom to go to the music page. Call up the script or piano/vocal score from the links on that page first (they open in new windows).

SO WHAT DOES ALL THIS HAVE TO DO WITH COMPOSER? Despite AI using the Cloud to create the voices, every number began life in Notation Composer -- and the score(s) were created in and published to PDF from Composer.

Have a listen and have some fun.

David

Hi David,

Just took a listen to some of the demo files and WOW that's impressive :) Not just the AI vocals (thanks for the tip on ACE Studio), but the entire production (or at least as much as I've listened to) would be a definite blast to put on. I sure hope you can get someone to nab it and put it out there. Wish I had a theater group now. Or was independently wealthy....

Best of luck - I would love to see this on stage :)

Sherry

p.s. In reviewing the Ace website, they list "Turn vocals into MIDI & lyrics & pitch by acapella convertor". I'm guessing that you used the "turn lyrics and MIDI into vocals", but I'm quite curious now about how well the vocals->MIDI works. All previous audio->MIDI progs that I've tested have been pretty abysmal. Have you tried this particular feature in Ace?

Hi David,

So I was cruising around your site (clicked the "Home" and went from there) and that's an amazing amount of theater (or theatre if you will) that you have there! I saw that you have pricing in CN dollars (understandable) but is it possible to contract for outside of Canada as well? I hope so because I have a couple of folks I know who I'd like to point your way, locally as well as I have a cousin in Texas who runs a theater group and I'm positive she'd love your work :)

Sherry

Hi, Sherry:

Thanks for the kind words.

I haven't explored all of the features of Ace Studio, yet. I'm thinking voice-to-midi won't be as successful as midi-to-voice, but we'll see.

Sure, I'm happy to make arrangements with anybody. Currently, my shows seem to be very popular in New Zealand and Australia -- multiple productions recently. I've also got a MAJOR production happening in Oregon in January and a smaller production happening in New Jersey in October. I've even had one in Brazil!

In fact, just about the only English-speaking country I can't get to pay attention to me is Canada!

One feature of Ace Studio that may be of particular interest to Composer users is a plug-in called Ace Bridge that lets any DAW (Digital Audio Workstation for the benefit of any forum users not as sophisticated as you and I ;)) that uses ASIO to drive Ace Studio directly. I'm thinking that would include Notation Composer.

Looks like you've got some heavy rain coming your way in the next few days, so batten down the hatches!

Hi David,

I have spread your fame far and wide with my small group of folks. Hopefully something works out to be mutually beneficial to you and them :)

For Ace Studio, I also shared that with some friends who compose as an option for adding demo vocals to choral pieces, which can be tricky to get a recording for otherwise.

Thanks for sharing your techno-know how, as well as your music! Much goodness all around :)

ttfn,
Sherry
