This is a bug in the current 2.5.2 release, that some notes when entered show the longer tied version (which is rhythmically correct, but gives a more cluttered looking score). It will be fixed in the upcoming 2.6 release.
For now, you can (1) select the tie(s) and (2) then click the "Collapse ties" button in the detail palette (third button from the left.) You'll then have just the whole note, rather than the tied notation.
