Default Re: Conversion of .not to MIDI

Hi snoops,

If I understand your order correctly it is:

  1. Create the song file in composer as the .not file (displayed second in your post).
  2. Export a .mid file, which you then open again in composer (displayed first in your post.)
If I am correctly understanding the procedure, then the problem is actually a transcription bug on importing the .mid file. The actual MIDI performance of the note is retained, but the notation that is transcribed is truncated. This (unfortunately) happens if the note is (1) tied across a barline and (2) is followed by a rest. It is a known bug, and is listed for fixing in an upcoming point release.

To amend the problem in notation composer:

  1. Open the song and click on Piano Roll
  2. Click the "Edit as-notated" button (in the middle) on the Piano Roll palette. This means that only the notation will be edited, not the actual MIDI performance.
  3. Click on the note to select it, then
  4. Press the "D" button (for duration) and the Right Arrow key to extend the notated duration of the note to where it should be.
Sorry for the inconvenience here.

ttfn,
Sherry
