instrument change on sounding chords
One slightly annoying feature I find when sounding chords written over a staff with the mouse.(see attached clip). When clicking a chord name with the mouse, the chord sounds on channel 1 and changes the instrument to a piano. I wonder if it necessary to do this. Why cant the chord sound on the track channel and leave the instrument unchanged. I notice when clicking a note head with the mouse no instrument change takes place and the note is played on the same channel as the track setting .

Re: instrument change on sounding chords
Hi Martin,
Here is one reason I can think of: All real Instruments are limited to a range of notes that can be played on that instrument. Sample libraries often respect that natural range of notes. Composer can be confident, that a certain notated note in a song can be played on the intended instrument. Composer does not know the range of other notes the instrument can play. However Composer can be confident about the range of notes that can be played on a piano. A happy and prosperous NEW Year, Herbert |

Re: instrument change on sounding chords
That a good point Herbert. If that is the reason for the use of a piano to sound chords should not the same thing apply to clicking a note on the staff. No instrument change happens then though. I just find it annoying having set up channel 1 instrument on my external midi device to find Composer has changed it back to a piano just because I happened to click on a chord symbol. Perhaps this behaviour could be made a user option in setup.
...and a very happy new year to you and yours also. Martin |

Re: instrument change on sounding chords
Hi guys,
Sorry to have missed this one before. You can indeed change the sound for the chords in either of the following locations: 1. Text -> Chord names -> Chord Builder, and click the "Select sound" button to choose the instrument sound you want for chords OR 2. Perform -> Practice...Play-along sound Enjoy, Sherry
