You've certainly nailed a lot of things about Composer and Notation Software. Your background experience in software is showing well

Our heart is for everyday musicians, as you've surmised. Sibelius and Finale are good for what they do. We want to help the other 99 percent of us (myself included) make good music affordably, and make it easily. We do appreciate feedback from all our customers, not just the ones that say "good job!" As you've said, we can't improve things if we don't know what needs improving.
