grace note on first note in measure

I cannot seem to put a grace note on the first note of the first measure of a melody. red message at bottom says I cannot overlap note. Is there away around this?

If you can please share the file (or part of the file) you're working on, and let me know where you're trying to put the grace note, it will give me a better idea of the issue. It sounds like it may be an issue of which way the grace note is borrowing time from.
