Symphony 1 in a minor "Royal"
INSTRUMENTS USED:
3 Flutes 3 Clarinets in Bb 8 Bassoons (in second and last movement 6) 1 Oboe Contrabassoon 2 Trumpets Timpani Organ Positiv Organ Violas Cellos Distant English Horn Distant Contrabassoon Distant Horns in F Distant Violins I Distant Violins II Distant Piano Distant Organ Distant Tubullar Bells MOVEMENTS: I. "In the castle" Starts with bar 1. It is dance-like in character and in variation form. II. "Procession" Starts with bar 21. It is free-form piece with some fugal elements at the beginning. III. (without title) Starts in bar 38. Also dance-like in character, but with distant tubullar bells at the begening and some organ-like sounds, wchich adds some "royal" or/and "church" feeling. IV. Finale - Fugue This movement is in separate file, because of technical thing (number of the midi canals). It is unfortunate, because third movement should be listened in close corelation to this movement. It is written as summarization of the whole Symphony, but not in number of used instruments, but rather in thematic material. It is double fugue. Enjoy! Howdy,
Short but sweet! You could put this all together into a single file. There are a number of "tricks" you can do when using only 16 channels for more instruments, such as: 1. Parts (eg. violas and cellos) where you use the same instrument patch can share a channel (this one you've already done ) 2. For string instruments where you have pizzicato and arco sections, you can use Sound Changes on a single staff (and thus channel) to accomplish the change in sound between the arco and pizzicato. You can use the "Sound Change" tab on Composer to do this. 3. If you want a performance sound difference in a particular instrument (eg. "near" and "far"), you can use either Note Velocities or Volume graphing to achieve the effect, but use a single staff (and channel) to get the performance you want. Then all you need to do is to add the performance note in the score for the musician to let them know how you want it played. (Do note that you'll only keep such free text or other performance annotations in the .not version of the file, not the .mid. The .mid file will perform the same, but the musician won't get to see your text performance directions.) The Users Guide gives pretty good instructions on how to use the above features.
