Default Slurs and Ties - line styles

Sherry

A minor suggestion. In choral and vocal music with multiple verses, it often occurs that a note is split to accommodate two syllables in one verse, but then tied or slured for a single syllable in another verse. Of course if the verses are not grouped as repeates but written out as separate sets of measures, then the different verses can be shown with different note values. But if you are showing the verses underneath each other then it can be a minor source of confusion.

In some printed scores this is addressed by having the optional slur/tie shown as a dotted line style rather than a solid line style, so it would be good to be able to choose the line style in Notation.

I'm sure this would be way down on the wish list unless other choral people come up with it.

Best wishes
Tim

Hi Tim,

This particular option (to have a dotted tie or slur) is not yet on the wish list (I can add it), but a similar option - smaller sized "optional" notes - is. I'll confess that I have not seen the option you listed (but I haven't seen all there is to see ), but have frequently seen the second option, which is already on the "to do" list.

Thoughts on the options? I'm asking, because while we always want to improve the software, we also do our best to keep the options that most users will find helpful, while keeping out extraneous ones that might confuse. I know there will always be some percentage of users who want it all but our goal is to help the most possible "everyday musicians".

ttfn,
Sherry

I would like to add my support for this facility - either a dotted line as an option for a slur or a slur with a small vertical line in the middle (such as an editor would use to indicate it is an 'editorial' slur).
I realise this is a specialist use but I can but ask!

Hi folks,

Ok, it is officially a documented request now: Task 3078

(that's a tracking number, not the number of tasks we have to do!)

ttfn,
Sherry
